FedEx Express @ The Hybrid on The Hill Event

I recently had the honor to represent FedEx Express at an event overlooking the steps of the US Capitol building in Washington DC.  One of our Hybrid Diesel-Electric delivery trucks, based a few blocks away at our station here in Washington, was positioned among a few other hybrid trucks.  Of course, ours was the best looking truck, but will admit to a potential bias in that opinion.

There are only a handful of things that are as American as a good ol’ road trip.  Clark Griswold made family road trips famously funny. My dad made road trips famously copasetic. Clark had the station wagon, my dad had a Dodge Caravan.This summer I get my own unique travel vehicle: a FedEx retro-fitted hybrid delivery truck.  In total, 92 trucks were retro-fitted in Charlotte, NC by Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) and Eaton Corporation will move across the U.S. to San Francisco and Los Angeles along Interstate 40. 

A Deeper Look at the FedEx Express Retro-Fit Hybrid Delivery Vehicles

July 21st is a landmark day in the FedEx Express effort to bring hybrid technology to the world of commercial vehicles.  About 9 months ago we recognized an opportunity existed to expand our hybrid fleet by converting existing vehicles to this fuel and emissions saving technology.  The conversion of existing long life medium duty vehicles originally manufactured by Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) enabled us to bring more hybrid trucks to the road than if we purchased new hybrid trucks.  At the same time, we were able to give older, less fuel efficient trucks a new life.  I ho
