There is a campaign in Washington that threatens the ability of FedEx and its team members to serve our customers. For the past few months, FedEx Express has been the target of an extensive special-interest lobbying campaign by UPS to have Congress pass legislation to change our status under the Railway Labor Act (RLA).

On Monday, I spoke to a unique audience of transportation executives and academic leaders on “The Greening of the Global Supply Chain.” I recapped our efforts at FedEx to have a more energy efficient and environmentally responsible set of operations in our operating companies. We call these initiatives, by the way, EarthSmart, and you’ll be seeing that logo on a lot of different FedEx applications. I offered a little bit of a history of our efforts in that regard.

Earlier today I spoke at the National Press Club in Washington, DC to report the findings of a study commissioned by the Energy Security Leadership Council. The ESLC is comprised of some of America’s business CEOs and retired four-star military officers. They make recommendations for a policy to reduce U.S. oil dependence and improve energy security.
