FedEx Team Members Let Loose at Seuss Party

LA's BEST Read Across America 031.jpg

Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss!  On March 2, fifteen FedEx volunteers and approximately 120 Stoner Elementary School children celebrated the famous author’s birthday by reading his books and playing games at a “Seuss on the Loose” carnival, as part of LA’s BEST “Read Across America” initiative. FedEx donated $10,000 to LA’s BEST, one of its local market partners and a nationally known after-school program for at-risk youth in the LA area. The organization will apply the donation to books for the children and activities such as drill team and soccer.

The FedEx volunteers donned tall, striped "Cat in the Hat" hats to get the kids in the Seuss spirit.  It was incredibly rewarding to see employees who focus intently on their jobs every day let loose and have a great time with the children. The funniest thing was watching our employees read the Dr. Seuss books and act out the stories. They really got in character and kept the kids entertained!

After reading Seuss stories, our volunteers played games with the children. Each game was themed around a Dr. Seuss story, and everyone had a great time. Afterwards, the children were given books, coloring books, bookmarks, pencils, notepads and pens to take home. On hand were representatives from the LA mayor’s office, who commended the FedEx volunteers for their generosity and upbeat spirit.

Having organized the event, I was happy to see the great response from FedEx team members and how they truly represented the "Purple" culture of FedEx at this event. It feels great to know we can have an impact on the future generation!
