Pandas Prefer to Fly FedEx Express
Once again, FedEx has been entrusted to transport giant pandas internationally, this time from the U.S. to China. On February 4, the “FedEx Panda Express” – a custom-decaled 777F aircraft – will take flight from Washington, D.C. with two giant pandas destined for their new homes in China.
Tai Shan, a 4-and-a-half-year-old male panda, and Mei Lan, a 3-year-old female panda, were both born in the U.S. and will depart for China as part of broader giant panda conservation programs designed to help save this endangered species.
FedEx Express had the privilege of transporting several giant pandas in the past – including Tai Shan’s parents Mei Xiang and Tian Tian in 2000. Later, in 2003, we were again called upon to safely deliver Ya Ya and Le Le to the Memphis Zoo.
I am incredibly proud that FedEx Express is able to support this latest mission by donating our expertise and resources to transport Tai Shan and Mei Lan. We will even be able to deliver the pandas more efficiently than ever before thanks to our new 777F aircraft. The 777F’s longer range enables us to fly non-stop between the U.S. to China, which benefits our customers and precious cargo like Tai Shan and Mei Lan.
