June 1 marks the first day of the 2009 hurricane season. FedEx provides relief and lifesaving aid to victims of disaster. We work with global nonprofit organizations to assist in relief, recovery and disaster-preparedness planning. FedEx and American Red Cross collaborated to develop an emergency preparedness checklist for small businesses.

Two years ago, I never would have considered myself an environmentalist. I took long showers, threw most everything in the trash and found fuel efficiency to be secondary to speed. Now I haven't given up red meet or bought a Terra Pass, but I do make a more conscious effort to be good to my planet. Since I have moved to New York City, I ride public transit almost 95% of the time, recycle half of my trash and have shortened my showers. All small steps to lessen my impact. But, is there more I can do?

During the last week of February, FedEx team members visited schools all around the country in support of Teach for America. FedEx recognizes the great work the organization does to put young leaders into the nation's schools to strengthen education in our country. I had the unique opportunity to visit Kingsbury High School right here in Memphis. This is my account.
