On Monday, I spoke to a unique audience of transportation executives and academic leaders on “The Greening of the Global Supply Chain.” I recapped our efforts at FedEx to have a more energy efficient and environmentally responsible set of operations in our operating companies. We call these initiatives, by the way, EarthSmart, and you’ll be seeing that logo on a lot of different FedEx applications. I offered a little bit of a history of our efforts in that regard.

President Obama has continued the tradition of issuing a Presidential Proclamation declaring March as Red Cross month. FedEx is thrilled that on March 9 we will be the featured corporate sponsor on the Red Cross month website, accessible from redcross.org. FedEx was proud to receive last year the Henry Dunant International Partnership Award from the Red Cross for our longstanding support of the organization's disaster preparedness and relief efforts worldwide. FedEx and The Happy Factory

Starting in 2005, FedEx has provided charitable shipping space for The Happy Factory to send toys worldwide to needy children. The Happy Factory started in the home of Charles and Donna Cooley in Cedar City Utah in 1995. The couple made hundreds of toys that they humbly offered to Primary Children's Hospital. The toys were received with such enthusiasm and gratitude that they made more and donated to ther local charities. Some days when I wake up, like everyone else, I “snooze” the alarm and pull the covers tight around my body—trying to keep all the energy and comfort of a good night’s sleep for just a couple minutes longer. As I lay there trying to capture the feeling of security and warmth of my room, I cannot for the life of me stop thinking about the students I have to get up and teach. I want to stay in bed.
